The three languages used in Cuba are Spanish, Creole, and Lucumi with Spanish making up 90% of the population. Other languages spoken are primarily from foreign tourists.
Lucumi is from the Niger-Congo family as well as a secret language exchanged between Santerian members. It was spoken between african slaves and the Yoruba. It isn't still used for communication purposes. Creole was spoken by the Haitians fleeing the Haitian Revolution. The accents and pronunciations in the language have impacted the Spanish spoken in Cuba as well. It is the second most common language there. |
